The Next 5 years
Recently, I have found out that I received the award for Apple Distinguished Educator 2017. This accomplishment is creating a new professional goal for me for the near future. This summer I will be attending a 4 day ADE Academy in which I will get to network with teachers and professionals from around the whole country and continent. I am really excited about this opportunity because it will be a continuance of my professional development with Michigan State University and STEM and Leadership Program. I know that this engagement will let me see other peoples’ perspectives, but at the same time see that we all have the same goal in mind, which is to spread the word and have students become amazing problem solvers that our nation and world needs.
Furthermore, I have been actively working with Computer Science For All, which is a Chicago Public School initiative to spread the word about computer science and have as many as possible students and teachers involved in it. Recently, I conducted several professional developments for teachers and also for leaders and principals. I really enjoyed being able to share my story and hopefully inspire other educators to do what I love to do. I have been able to share the importance of teaching students how to program and learn a new programming language Swift.
These past and future opportunities are deepening my teaching and learning skills and letting me transmit my vision onto others. Also, in the classroom I have been having my students participate in STEM/Maker Space Centers which are going fantastic. I am so proud of students progress and how much they are learning and enjoying it. I love seeing girls and boys who are tinkering with engineering and are not afraid to make mistakes.
